Design Description:
Wondrous Illumination originates from the Shuiyue Guanyin. Guanyin sits casually with flowing robes, wearing a yingluo across the breast and a top knot. Head lowered in silent contemplation, a picture of peaceful tranquility.Guanyin is backlit by a mountainous background. The central sphere is like a pure moon upon which Guanyin reclines, illuminated. The “stone” is composed of layers of light, one gentle one unyielding, creating a visual juxtaposition.The backlit surface symbolizes a great awakening. The highest state in Buddhism, “becoming Buddha”, is actually “enlightenment” and truth. The essence of enlightenment is illumination. The sculpture is as steady as the mountain. The background also represents an abstract flower, the realization that all life is originally nonexistent. The flower of wisdom blooms from compassion and harmony.
